A medical orthopedist came to speak to our graduating class in chiropractic college.  We sat and listened to him describe the latest techniques in medicine for the treatment of spinal discs.  He was very enthusiastic and absolutely convinced medicine had a safe effective way of reducing discal protrusions, “chymopapain.”

He described injecting an enzyme into the discs of the lower back.  He stated that this reduced the disc pressure by breaking down the proteins.

Fearfully, we leaned forward in our chairs when he said emphatically, “this is going to put you chiropractors out of business!”

After graduating I asked a medical doctor about this procedure.  He quickly said; “No, we don’t do that anymore, it was killing people.”  The sale and distribution were discontinued due to “paralysis and death.”

Our care is very safe.  People should get conservative chiropractic care first.  Drugs second, because they have side effects, and surgery is the last thing someone should do because it’s dangerous.
