How Does This Happen?
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body. It is supported in part by various muscles that surround the joint. Trauma can easily upset the balance that allows the shoulder to move. Falling on the shoulder, as well as movement beyond what the joint is capable of, are frequent causes of shoulder pain. Other causes can be dislocations, fractures, infectious processes, or arthritic changes.
What Can I do To Help Myself?
Packing the entire shoulder in ice frequently relieves the pain and swelling that is associated with shoulder injuries. Of course, ice should never be applied directly to the skin. Use a wet towel between the ice and the skin. Later on, gentle exercise to the shoulder can be helpful under the supervision of a qualified doctor of chiropractic.
It’s Still Bothering Me, Now What?
Structural alignment is critical to normal function of the shoulder. Our center specializes in gentle adjustments that realign the shoulder and allow for pain-free movements, good strength, and quick returns to regular activities.
