How Does This Happen?
The causes of knee injuries are mostly obvious and fairly common. They include slips, falls, jerks, sports injuries, direct trauma, twisting injuries, work-related kneeling injuries, sprains, and strains. As the knee is the largest joint in the body, it is well supported by various ligaments, tendons, and muscles. A cartilage or meniscus allows the knee joint to glide easily and supports the joint on the inner and outer parts. Obviously any structure of the knee can be involved in injuries.
What Can I do To Help Myself?
Initially, ice is usually recommended. The classic treatment is described by the letters R.I.C.E.
R – Rest
I – Ice 5 – 20 minutes, three times per day
C – Compression, ace bandage is fine
E – Elevate above the heart
· Please note, ice should never be applied directly to the skin.
